  10.    `xpkdisk.device' is an exec-style device that looks like
  11. trackdisk.device and similar disks. The difference is that it compresses
  12. its data and stores it in multiple files in an existing filesystem.

  14.    * Now includes a utility to reclaim space from deleted files.
  15.  
  16.    * Now uses a hierarchical track naming scheme for faster access!
  17.  
  18.    * Now behaves better in cace of threatening lack of disk space.

  20.    * Now handles read-only media.

  22.    It uses the XPK (eXternal PacKer) standard to do the actual
  23. compression.  This has many advantages:

  25.    * You can choose which compression is most effective for your
  26.      purpose. For one disk, you might want a very tight compression
  27.      that is slow, for another you may prefer a faster but less
  28.      efficient compression.
  29.  
  30.    * As soon as another XPK library is released, you can use it for your
  31.      compressed disk(s).

  33.    * Because each track is a standard XPK-compressed file, you can use
  34.      the normal XPK utilities to uncompress your data, should you wish
  35.      to do so.

  37.    * You can change the compression type of a disk on-the-fly. All
  38.      already compressed data remains perfectly usable, but upon
  39.      re-compression your new choice will be used.

  41.    * You can even manually decompress and recompress your disk (when
  42.      xpkdisk is not accessing it, of course) with another compression
  43.      method.
